Why Do Healthy Workplaces Matter?

Research has demonstrated that when work place conditions are healthy, employees and their families thrive, employee absenteeism and turnover declines, and organizations experience greater productivity, effectiveness, and profits. How we design our workplaces can make a significant difference on whether or not employees thrive and organizations succeed. The extent to which we create workplace environments that actively support mental health can impact whether or not employees seek needed supports and services.

The resources included on this page help to define a healthy workplace and highlight the employee and organizational benefits of creating a healthy workplace. Tools for reducing stigma, creating positive work environments, and creating policies that encourage employees to take care of their mental health are included on this site.

Our Collective Work

Thanks for joining our collective effort to create healthier workplaces! The work we do and the places where we work play a significant role in our lives, influencing our physical and mental health in good and bad ways. When workplaces nurture mental mental and well-being, employees and their families flourish; when they don’t, employees experience stress and burnout and their overall health can deteriorate. Workplaces also experience the consequences of employee stress, burnout and poor mental health. Recruitment efforts struggle, turnover rate increase, effectiveness and productivity decrease, and the bottom-line can suffer (The U.S. Surgeon General’s Framework for Workplace Mental Health & Well-Being).
