Enhance Wellbeing and Resilience Action Priorities
Across Northwest Michigan, stakeholders agree there is an urgent need to move efforts upstream to promote the well-being and resilience of all children, youth, families and adults. Upon reviewing local assets and needs, stakeholders prioritized three key change objectives related to enhancing wellbeing and resilience:
-
Promote positive healthy experiences across the lifespan
-
Reduce the risks for behavioral health challenges
-
Strengthen community
Currently, stakeholders are working in action teams tackling three action priorities related to these objectives. Click on any of the action teams listed to learn more about their work and to see the resources they have developed for the region:
Enhance Social Emotional Competencies
By enhancing core skills such as decision making, self-management, social-awareness, and relationship skills, children and adults can become more confident and better prepared for when they are confronted with difficult situations and decisions.
Promote Positive Adult Connections
Children who have a trusted relationship with at least one adult are more likely to thrive. By ensuring that the region is educated on the importance of these relationships and the opportunities that exist to connect with youth through volunteerism, positive connections among children and adults will grow.
Reduce Deaths by Suicide
In a geographically isolated region, residents often lack a network of formal services and community supports to aid them in case of a mental health crisis. By working to fill the gaps in services and support the development of strong community networks, residents will have the support they need in case of a crisis.
