Do you know what to say or how to help someone who is experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis? Approaching someone who is struggling with their mental health or substance use can be daunting, and people often worry that they could say the wrong thing and accidentally make the issue worse. But showing up for loved ones in crisis is simpler than most people think: what’s most important is to show someone that you care about their experience and that you’re there to help them through this journey. Remember, the illness or disorder is the problem, NOT the person. The resources below will give you the tools you need to support your friends, family, and co-workers during their time of need.If you or someone you know needs immediate help, you can reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 or using the chat box at 988lifeline.org/chat.
